Bloemfontein Celtic’s game against Free State Stars on Wednesday, 17th May 2017, to be played at Dr. Molemela Stadium will be a fierce battle. Indicative of the 2008 clash between the two sides where Celtic drastically succumbed to a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Stars whilst fighting for relegation the mammoth encounter is expected to produce sparks. Both buoyed by the R2 million cash injection from the Free State Government the two equally offensive teams will be hoping for positive results.

Contrary to what happened nearly decade ago, with Celtic languishing at the half bottom of the league and Stars in the top-8 bracket this derby sees both teams ferociously fighting for survival with Celtic leading their opponents with just one point from 28 games played with Stars enjoying a slight positive goal difference.

Celtic’s MD Rali Ramabodu says his team needs to be ruthless in front of goals and believes winning at home in front of multitudes of their supporters will be a rewarding exercise. “This thorny journey of trying to move slightly up the table is strenuous and winning our last home game will be a massive boost to the team and supporters. Our opponents also desperately need three points to escape the axe and obviously attacking them will also mean cautiously guarding against defensive errors that might cause us this crucial game.”

“Our supporters who have been behind us wholeheartedly deserve an excellent type of commitment. Celtic supporters must buy tickets, fervently sing with menacing passion that will add value to the motivation of players, as a collective, we must create an atmosphere that will encourage our players” he finishes.
