Baroka FC failed to improve the relegation woes when playing to a 1-1 draw against Bloemfontein Celtic in an Absa Premiership match at the Peter Mokaba stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The draws sees them remain second from bottom on the league table with 23 points from 26 matches, and with four games to go they are in real danger of receiving the axe from the South African top flight.

Celtic are not much better off with the draw moving them into 12th place on the table with 25 points from 25 matches, only three points clear of the last placed team on the log.

Baroka did start the match well as they found the opening goal in the eight minute when Mzwanele Mahashe powerfully headed home a Punch Masenamela cross, 1-0.

Celtic tried to find their way back into the match and came close to finding the equaliser on the half hour mark, but Ayanda Dlamini’s long range effort sailed inches over the target.

Five minutes from halftime Baroka nearly doubled their lead when Jose Garcia unleashed a fine strike from the edge of the box, but he was superbly denied by Celtic goalkeeper Patrick Tignyemb.

The half ended 1-0 in favour of the hosts.

The start of the second half saw Celtic taking control and they almost found the back of the net five minutes into the stanza when a shot from Dlamini was parried to safety by goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke.

Baroka had the perfect chance to wrap-up the game in the 70th minute when substitute Victor Letsoalo broke through on goal, but he was denied in a one-on-one with Tignyemb.

Celtic did manage to find an equaliser in the 80th minute when a great strike from Lyle Lakay hit the back of the net, 1-1.

Three minutes from time Celtic nearly stole victory when Moeketsi Mvula found himself in space on the edge of the box, but he saw his shot tipped around the post by the Baroka goalkeeper.

The game ended 1-1.
