Orlando Pirates will kick-off their quest for a second star with a Caf Champions League group stage clash away to FC Platinum at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo on Saturday afternoon.

Kick-off is at 3pm CAT (SA, GMT+2).

The Buccaneers have been drawn in Caf Champions League Group B alongside Guinea giants Horoya FC, current Zimbabwean champions FC Platinum and Caf Champions League holders Esperance de Tunis.

Pirates', 1995 champions of Africa's premier cup competition, first challenge comes in the form of the back-to-back Zimbabwean Premier League champions and current ZPSL Castle Challenge Cup holders, FC Platinum.

Platinum, who are making their group stage debut in the competition this weekend, have been a team on the rise and will be licking their lips at the prospect of grabbing a major scalp on their first try.

Orlando Pirates winger and Zimbabwe international Kudakwashe Mahachi is wary on the threat posed by their opponents, but is confident that the South Africans will be boosted by some local support with the game to take place in Bulawayo and not in Zvishavane.

“We can’t underestimate FC Platinum, they are a quality side with a pedigree having won the league in Zimbabwe," Mahachi told his club's official website.

"We can expect them to come hard at us. Their game is almost similar to ours because they also enjoy playing with the ball on the ground and keeping possession. It should be an interesting game on the weekend.”

He continued: "Should I be considered to travel with the team to Zimbabwe, I will certainly be emotional because I’ll be going home to a place where I grew up. Everybody in Bulawayo supports Orlando Pirates.

“The team I even played while I was based there, Highlanders FC, modelled themselves around Orlando Pirates. They even adopted the club’s iconic crossbones salute before the start of their matches.”

“I have been inundated with calls from back home telling me that they are excited over the prospect of seeing Orlando Pirates play in Bulawayo. They are telling me that they are 100 percent behind us," he concluded.

Pirates head into the clash on the back of a 4-2 win over Chippa United in the Absa Premiership on Tuesday evening.
