Lobi Stars will square off with Mamelodi Sundowns in the 2018/19 CAF Champions League Group A match at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Nigeria on Friday.

Kick-off is at 6pm CAT (GMT+2).

The Nigerian outfit booked their place in the group stage after eliminating Cameroonian club UMS de Loum and Kenyan giants Gor Mahia in the qualifying rounds.

Stars, who participated in the 2000 Champions League group stage, are confident that they will do well in the last 16.

Chili Azu, the Stars defender, has made it known that the Ortom Boys are not afraid of the 2016 Champions League winners Sundowns.

“We know the assignment at hand and are more than ready to make our fans happy right from the first game until the entire six games we are going to play in the group stage," Azu told Goal.

"We are going to be focused on our preparations while we are going to wait to get more information about them. We are not afraid.”

Stars head coach Solomon Ogbeide will be keen to guide his side to a victory against the Brazilians with the Ortom Boys having won their last two home games in the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Sundowns reached the last 16 after defeating Leones Vegetarianos of Equatorial Guinea and Libyan outfit Al Ahli Benghazi in the qualifying rounds.

The South African giants are making their fourth successive appearance in the group stage of Africa's most prestigious club competition.

Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane has praised the Premier Soccer League (PSL) for rearranging their league fixtures in a decision that allowed them to travel early to Nigeria.

“We have been living in this space for the last five years, it’s our life. There’s no excuse about the workload. I must give the PSL credit," Mosimane said.

"They have been communicating with us, even during the week and at night to try and help us to carry the flag of the country. They have shifted games to accommodate us. That’s why we have around 32 games to play from now until May. There’s no break in between.”

Sundowns, who are undefeated in their last two away matches in the Champions League, will be eyeing a winning start in their group stage campaign.
