The current SASOL League National Champions, Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies, annexed the Free State women’s league for a resounding 12th time when they defeated Simunye ladies FC by 3-0 this past Saturday (27th October 2018).

The marauding Diski Queens have amassed 82 points from 30 games played with a goal difference of 131 goals (having scored 150 goals and conceded 19 goals with 17 clean sheets). The Mangaung based side has a prestigious opportunity to defend the title they have consecutively won for the past two seasons.

Buoyed by the enthusiastic displays and sheer resilience showed by the team this season, coach Edwin Motlale “Magents” Lisene said winning the play-offs is a priority and defending their championship is more than a prerogative. “I was fascinated and somehow humbled by the great work and fervent commitment shown by the team this season. It was psychologically strenuous for my team playing under tremendous pressure trying to win games while looking at the prospect of eventually defending their title. The determination and absolute professional conduct seen this season was exceptionally intriguing.”

“God was merciful,” he continued. “His generosity was conspicuous even when some players got injured we continued to win games as if nothing happened. Having both players and technical members on the national team setup distinctively showed the great and unreserved obligation from the player’s side. Remember we have a mixture of experienced and young keen ladies willing to carry the Celtic flag higher than expected and that must be commended.”

Lisene thanked everyone who has been supportive towards their cause and promised to continue producing pure talent for the team saying the management has been nothing but phenomenal with their support. “No words can adequately express my delight at the support we received from our management and that made the job easy for these kids to focus on their football career. Having both SAFA and SASOL was a blessing for the development of football especially in this region. How can I forget the supporters for their brilliant way of encouraging us and lastly the rest of the technical team led by Steve Komphela for such amazing cooperation and advice,” he concluded.
