Maritzburg United will square off with Bidvest Wits in an Absa Premiership match at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 6pm.

The Team of Choice are hoping to record their first league win of the season, having drawn 0-0 with Kaizer Chiefs at home in their previous game last month.

Meanwhile, Wits returned to winning ways in the league when they thrashed AmaZulu 3-0 at home in their previous match last month.

The win saw the Clever Boys maintain their lead at the top of the league standings, having accumulated 12 points from five games. They are two points above second-placed Bloemfontein Celtic.

What the teams are saying

Maritzburg United defender Nazeer Allie:

“For me, I’m used too it. I moved from Ajax (Cape Town) to (Bidvest) Wits so it doesn’t matter for me.

"It will be a tough game against the log leaders so we will have to be at our best to get the victory at our home stadium."

Bidvest Wits head coach Gavin Hunt:

“We have only played five games but you can see [with new players] that there are new legs and energy in the team.

“We didn’t have this last season. We are going to see where we finish after 30 games, but there’s still a long way to go.”

Maritzburg United key players

Siyanda Xulu: The new Maritzburg club captain has re-established himself as one of the top defenders in the country. Xulu will be keen to lead his side to victory against the Clever Boys.

Andrea Fileccia: The Belgian is Maritzburg's first-choice striker, but he is yet to score this season. Fileccia will be hoping to open his scoring account against Wits and help his side win at home.
