Niger Tornadoes head coach Abubakar Bala believes the annual pre-season championship, the Gold Cup, will greatly help participating teams to test their new signings for the upcoming league season.

The championship will start on Wednesday with ten teams present to vie for the coveted trophy.

Participating teams are title holders Lobi Stars, runners-up Mountain of Fire Miracles Ministries (MFM) FC, Niger Tornadoes, Rivers United, Katsina United, Kano Pillars, newly promoted side Kwara United, FC Ebedei and two demoted sides Remo Stars and Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) FC.

“MFM FC are preparing for the Caf Champions League so the championship is quite crucial for them.

“Both teams recruited new players and I’m sure they will want to see their capabilities to deliver the goods.

“We are going to play our two key players now against MFM FC, which is sure to make the clash more entertaining and interesting.
