Inspired by the woman’s month commemoration and zeal to celebrate women in sport; Bloemfontein Celtic invited supporter’ branches to play in a mini-tournament with the winners getting a trophy and subsequently given jerseys used last season by the Ladies team.

The participating branches, Phahameng, Freedom Square, Turflaagte and Batho battled it out at Sports Outdoor Centre from 10h00 till late on Sunday (27 August 2017) and Freedom Square became ultimate winners. The highlight of the day was a match between the Lesotho National Women’s team against Celtic Ladies. Inspired by multitudes of fans that converged to commemorate the day, Celtic walloped their opponents by 4-1. Ironically, the Lesotho Team was tormented by their captain, Boitumelo Rabale, currently playing for the Mangaung based side.

“We are thrilled as a team and encouraged by the support received on the day,” Boitumelo enthusiastically spoke about the event. “Commemorating this auspicious month, wearing Celtic colours to play against my country of birth was bit weird, yet enjoyable. I was shaking after scoring not knowing whether to celebrate or just bow my head in respect of my seniors.” She laughs as she shares her emotions.

Rabale commended her teammates both at National and club level for playing gallantly, she also thanked the fans “I was fascinated by the commitment displayed on the day by supporters of Celtic, how branches organised themselves and enjoyed as if it was official games. We also had a massive game that kept supporters chanting and that was one experience I won’t forget.”
